NPR reporter keynotes graduation
NPR national reporter Kirk Siegler (’00) was the guest speaker at May’s recognition ceremony for 150 JMC graduates.
Siegler told graduates and their families that despite reports of journalism’s demise, he’s excited by what’s going on in the industry. “We have spent far too much time mourning the loss of traditional newspapers. We are in flux, but we’re figuring this out. And what industry hasn’t changed over the past 10, 20 or 50 years?” he said.
Consumers remain hungry for objective, factual reporting and advances in technology make it faster and easier for good reporters to do their research and gather information on the scene, Siegler added. “It’s this amazing moment right now in journalism where it’s so easy to bring more context and depth to our everyday reporting.”
