New Journalism Plus students start classes this month

As a new year and the spring semester begin, the University of Colorado Boulder is welcoming the first class of journalism students entering under a new undergraduate degree structure called “Journalism Plus” that CU officials say will create better journalists, better news content and, over time, a more informed society.

Assistant Professor Rick Stevens teaches Digital Journalism this fall. His students learn new new styles of narrative using text, hypertext, photos, images in motion, audio, databases, and new technologies. And, the core principles of journalism go along with the new technology. ROB DENTON

Five CU journalism students intern at CBS News in New York City

Hundreds of internship opportunities are available to CU journalism students. Each year, about 300 journalism students perform media internships for credit, a number that doesn’t include the many others who do noncredit internships or volunteer work with student-run or local media.

CU journalism alums happily report and edit in Steamboat Springs

Nearly all of them thought they’d only be in Steamboat Springs for a year. Maybe two. That’s the natural state of mind for young graduates fresh out of journalism school at the University of Colorado and arriving in Steamboat Springs to start a first job that, surely, is just a steppingstone to loftier career goals and larger markets.
